Abstrak

The utilization of leftover rice waste as a raw material for liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) represents an innovative approach to supporting sustainable agriculture. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of LOF derived from fermented leftover rice on the growth of water spinach (Ipomoea reptans), soil microbial activity, and nutrient availability. The research was conducted using a completely randomized design (CRD) with four LOF dosages (0, 50, 75, and 100 mL/L) applied to water spinach over five weeks. Observed parameters included plant height, leaf number, fresh weight, dry weight, soil microbial activity, and the content of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, and soil organic matter.

The results revealed that LOF application did not significantly influence plant growth parameters. Soil microbial activity increased from 1.5 mg CO₂/g/day in the control group to 2.3 mg CO₂/g/day in the treatment groups, but this was not accompanied by significant improvements in nitrogen, phosphorus, or potassium levels in the soil. This suggests that nutrients in the LOF were predominantly utilized for microbial metabolism rather than enhancing plant productivity.

This study highlights the importance of understanding the intricate order of ecosystems created by Allah. Soil microorganisms play specific roles that require organic matter with a balanced composition to support optimal nutrient transformation. This research opens opportunities for optimizing LOF formulations, such as incorporating supplementary organic materials or functional microbes. With a more targeted approach, leftover rice waste has the potential to support sustainable agriculture while reflecting humanity's responsibility as stewards of the Earth.
