The rapid development of digital technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) has transformed the learning paradigm in higher education. University students are required to possess digital literacy skills to effectively utilize technology in supporting independent learning. This article aims to analyze the influence of digital literacy on students’ self-directed learning in the AI era. The study employs a literature review method by examining various relevant journals, books, and research findings. The results indicate that digital literacy has a positive impact on students’ self-directed learning, as it enables them to access, evaluate, and utilize information effectively. Furthermore, the use of AI tools such as ChatGPT can enhance learning effectiveness when applied critically and ethically. Therefore, strengthening digital literacy has become an essential requirement in higher education to foster students who are independent, critical, and adaptable to technological advancements.
