Abstract

The free tutoring program is a non-formal educational intervention aimed at strengthening children's learning motivation in rural areas with limited access to educational services. This study examines the implementation of the free tutoring program in Kalebentang Village, South Galesong District, Takalar Regency, and its impact on the learning motivation of elementary and secondary school children in the village. The research method used a participatory approach involving children participating in the program, tutors, parents, and the local community for six months. Data were collected through learning motivation questionnaires (pre- and post-intervention), attendance and activity observations, and semi-structured interviews with children, parents, and program administrators. The results showed that after the program implementation: (1) there was an increase in attendance at tutoring sessions; (2) learning motivation scores, both intrinsic and extrinsic, increased; (3) a more conducive learning atmosphere and increased parental support; (4) obstacles in the form of limited facilities, access, and program sustainability. The discussion links the findings with learning motivation theory and current literature indicating that free tutoring can be a strategy to reduce educational disparities in rural areas. In conclusion, this program deserves to be implemented more systematically with the support of local stakeholders and long-term sustainability.
