Abstract

Telecommunications is a fundamental field in Electrical Engineering that plays a crucial role in delivering information quickly, accurately, and efficiently. Basic telecommunications material covers the concepts, objectives, and functions of communication systems, as well as the main components that make up a telecommunications system, from the information source to the intended recipient. Furthermore, the course discusses analog and digital signal types, guided and unguided transmission media, and the principles of modulation and demodulation as key techniques in the information transmission process. Aspects of signal interference (noise), system performance parameters, and the differences between analog and digital telecommunications are also crucial in understanding the quality and reliability of communication systems. This basic understanding of telecommunications is expected to provide a foundation for Electrical Engineering students in studying and developing modern communication technologies such as cellular networks, the internet, satellites, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
