Abstract

Based on the results of classroom observations, this study aims to address the low understanding of multiplication among second-grade students at UPT SDN 29 Banyuanyara through the use of a multiplication board learning media. Low reading ability, lack of learning motivation, and minimal student engagement during lessons were identified as major factors contributing to low mathematics achievement, particularly in multiplication. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were 19 second-grade students. The findings indicate that the use of the multiplication board effectively improved students’ activeness, independence, and conceptual understanding of multiplication. In the first cycle, the students’ mastery level reached only 47%, but it increased to 100% in the second cycle after improvements were made to the learning process. The multiplication board provided concrete and interactive learning experiences, enabling students to better grasp multiplication concepts and become more motivated during mathematics learning. Therefore, the multiplication board is proven to be an effective learning tool to enhance multiplication understanding among second-grade elementary school students.
