This study aims to describe the effectiveness of flashcards in improving the early reading skills of first-grade students at SD Inpres Tebbakang, Gowa Regency. This study employed descriptive qualitative research, describing an event or object that is the focus of the study. A pedagogical approach was used. The data sources used were primary and secondary data sources. Data collection methods included observation, interviews, and documentation. The research instruments used were observation guidelines, interview guidelines, and documentation guidelines. Data analysis techniques used were data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Two methods of data validity testing were used: triangulation and extended observation time. The results of the study indicate: 1) Flashcards significantly improved the early reading skills of first-grade students at SD Inpres Tebbakang, Gowa Regency, encompassing lesson planning, instructional implementation through flashcards, and learning evaluation. 2) Flashcards significantly improved students' early reading skills. Through flashcards, students can learn about recognizing letters (the alphabet), letter sounds, combining letters, reading words, and reading sentences. 3) Inhibiting factors in the application of flashcard media to the initial reading ability of first grade students of SD Inpres Tebbakang, Gowa Regency, limited time and concentration of students as students may find it difficult to stay focused on seeing the media, especially if the small flashcard media can make students bored. The implications of this study indicate that the use of flashcard media can influence the initial reading ability of students, can provide satisfaction for students because this flashcard is a game-based learning media. This flashcard game makes students enthusiastic about learning and can develop their minds, memory, concentration and can train patience. In using this flashcard media, it has the aim of improving cognitive abilities related to learning and initial reading abilities.
