Abstract

Writing skills are an important aspect in learning Indonesian in elementary schools, but in reality, many students still experience difficulties in writing narrative texts coherently and meaningfully. This study aims to describe the application of the process writing model and improve the narrative text writing skills of fourth-grade students at UPT SDN No. 78 Balang. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The subjects of the study were Indonesian language teachers and fourth-grade students. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis of student writing, then analyzed using the interactive techniques of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña which include data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the application of the process writing model through five main stages prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing—can improve students' narrative text writing skills. Improvements are seen in students' abilities to develop ideas, structure coherent texts, and correct linguistic errors. In addition, this model also increases students' motivation and confidence in writing.
